So what's your plans for Thanksgiving??

Our youngest Jessica and hubby Adam along with our son Chris will be here. We are members of Tahlequah Elks Lodge and a few are having early or after Holiday get together so we have invited them to our home rather than them being alone on Tday. We are doing 2 Turkeys and a huge pit ham. Betty is famous for her Broccoli rice casserole and bread dressing. I do the baking and will be making Lemon Meringue, pecan, lemon pecan, orange pecan, pumpkin and apple pie. Sides will be mashed potato's, dressing, cranberry salad, sweet potato soufflé,broccoli casserole, homemade yeast buns and Iced tea and wine.
Were Blessed with many friends and love having them in our home.
Just wish we could also be with our oldest who lives in Idaho. Her Hubby Jim ( Navy Captain, Dentist) will be alone as his family is in Penn.

We usually rotate where we have it each year as to be fair to everyone. This year, Cheryl's brother and his wife are the hosts. We usually have everyone bring a dish (I'm famous for my Horseradish deviled eggs and everyone always asks me to make 2 trays). One of these Thanksgivings (or any time I dare try it) I am planning to deep fry a turkey, never had one like that and I am told by everyone how good it is.

After that, we will probably go visit my younger brother, his wife, my neice and nephew up in Pa.

Pretty easy:

Make deviled eggs as you normally would do but add (per dozen egg yolks):

One full jar of "full strength" horseradish. I grow my own, but Kelchner's is just as hot.

One half to one full small jar of hot Kelchner's Hot mustard (chinese mustard works too)instead of powdered mustard. A full jar makes them super hot, half jar, medium heat.

Good stuff, been making 'em that way for many years. One year I put a slice of jalepeno on each one and everyone was like, wtf are you trying to kill us ???

When I suggested Wasabi instead of horesradish, I got the same response. I also grow my own and it's pretty intense.

Just going to be a nice and quite Thanksgiving with the 3 of us at home. The big plans are for friday the day after Thanksgiving, 3 days camping and 'tooning down at the Butte!!!! If the current weather trend cooperates it should still be mid 60's during the day, oh yes cannot wait. The only downside is I head out to work today and will not be back in untill monday so that I can afford to take the time off.





Not to hijack, just that this is the time of year to think of family and friends, anybody hear from Seadog?

Damn, if I didn't have to work the day after Thanksgiving (that is also a holiday here in the county, my holiday to work), it sounds like I'd crash a party in Oklahoma. LR that sounds like a fantastic feast. My wife's family will come from about an hour away in Iowa, and we will go to a large restaurant that serves about 2000 people for the Tday dinner. That makes it easier for us to visit and have fun rather than work in the kitchen so long, since we both have to work the day before also.

I guess that's the fun part for me. I love to cook. We make a whole day out of it. It is not a fancy afair. Pajamas all day, parade, football, cooking and bloody marys all day. We eat early, about two or three, so we have the rest of the afternoon to sit around and watch football and visit. That way there is no rush to dig into the pie so everyone can leave. My wife and her brother and sister have a tradition of going out to the stores at midnight to get all the black friday deals. None of that for me thanks.

Emliy, her daughter, and I will go to my sister's house, in Roanooke, along with my father (85 yo), my aunt (88 yo) and my other sister and her family from Greensboro. Spend the day cooking, eating, watching football.

As a matter of fact I do, it fills a one gallon jar with some brine left over.

5 dozen eggs
5 cups white vinegar
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
1/3 cup red pepper flakes
1/4 cup Creek shrimp seafood boil and picling spice http://www.onion-creek.com/crshsebo4ou.html


Boil eggs to a just a smidge under done. Peel accordingly and loosly fill the jar

bring all other ingredients to a boil. Let it cool for about 10 minutes and pour into said jar, getting all the little bits of spices into the jar. Make sure jar is pre-heated or it could crack. Cover and refrigerate. let sit for at least two weeks prior to eating.

At hunting camp they can't get enough of these.

I never brought it up before because I didn't want people to think I was trying to advertize, but since you asked for one of my recipies, we have a family owned company that sells rubs and spices and sauces. It's some good stuff. check out the link in my signature.
