Mold!!!

#1 Post by Cobra427cable » Mon Aug 02, 2010 7:09 am

I know this subject has been talked about on here a few times but some of the suggestions have not worked for me. The carpet on the back deck has had a mold issue almost from the first day I got it wet. The boat sits out in the sun during the summer and where the sun shines on it, there's no problem but in the back it stays shaded most of the time and the way the boat sits, any rain or morning dew drains back to the rear and it stays wet alot. I have used a 50/50 water/bleach, a mildew/mold killer from lowes, a 100% strength bleach and when it drys out it looks very good and back to the light brown color but get it a little wet again the nasty looking green color just pops out again. Any suggestions, remove the carpet and put down vinyl! It's an aluminum deck too so it can't be soaking into the wood...

Tried all the stuff you mentioned an was getting really frustrated. Found this stuff at H Depot. Sure wish I had found it a day or so earlier. Took the stain off in less than a minute. It is pretty strong stuff an the instruction said don't leave on vinyl over 15min. I worked in small areas an immediately rinsed an followed by 303 protectant. When I finished the vinyl looked better than new

As I have said before I am not a fan of using harsh anything on the vinyl, but this is the only thing that would touch it. Might be able to cut it 1 to 1 with water an try that first. From there you could just strenghten mix as needed.

I had the same issue with the rear platform on my 2008 party hut. We probably have the same carpet. I used a pressure washer to blow everything away and then used mold off.

www.moldoff.com

It worked well for me on the platform and along the bottom of fence rails. No mold in 2 months. When using the pressure washer alone the mold would reappear in 2 weeks.

Wet & Forget

I had problem with mold/moss growing on my swim platform... powerwash and it would return

Just spray with wet and forget and give it a few weeks it will never return

you can buy enought to make 15 gallons at costco for 30 bucks

What to do with the extra? I sprayed it on my roof and all the walls of my shed. Killed all the green stuff moss growing in shade on items. Also killed all the green growin on my deck.

I wrote to Wet and Forget they said it was ok to use on Sunbrella and outdoor carpet. But to color test a sample.... I had no problem with any color fading, I have sprayed the complete carpet now in boat.

One thing to mention if you use wet & forget

It took about 1 month before the green stuff on roof was gone... but it has been 15 months and no sign of green

I had powerwashed the carpet before applying, so no comment on how long for it to disapper. It just never reappeared, I did it about a year ago on boat.
