Hello from Tenn. River/NW Alabama

#1 Post by Bamaman » Fri May 06, 2011 8:16 pm

Hello from Muscle Shoals, AL--140,000 souls living in the middle of Pickwick Lake, Wilson Lake and Wheeler Lake. #1 in large smallmouth & #1 in large catfish. The largemouth bass aren't too bad either--according to the Bassmaster Elite anglers.

SHHHH! Don't tell anyone about this place. We have two of the 18 hole Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses on my street. And, the housing market and property taxes probably the least expensive in the U.S. We're 2 hrs. from 3 cities of 1 million people.

I have a 1985 Starcraft 24' with a Yamaha 115 hp bassboat motor. It's planes off @ 2500 rpm--almost silently. The seats finally need re-doing, but it's been in a boathouse undercover it's whole life. I spent my new pontoon boat $ last year on a new Yamaha VX Cruiser Waverunner. Oh well, maybe next year.

I'm glad to see a website with such helpful and dedicated people.

Hidey-ho! I am in your neck of the woods all the time. Giant Wheeler & Wilson cats and smallmouth galore! If yall have never been to Wheeler dam, its a sight to behold. Over a mile wide...just amazing.

With all the recent rains in East Tennessee/North Georgia, the Tennessee River dams have had the spillways open.

I counted 35 spillways at Wilson Dam open a week ago--putting out a 10' wall of water below. It's a 5000' concrete dam. This makes Niagra Falls look small in water output. TVA hates to open the dam, as that's water they could run through their 600 KW Hour power house turbines to make free electricity.

You could almost waterski in the current below the dam w/o any boat.
