Newbie from MI

#1 Post by RobMI » Sat May 14, 2011 4:01 pm

Just saying hello name is Rob live on an electric only lake in metro detroit. The lake is about a mile in length and is populated with electric pontoons. I picked up a small 14ft sea hunt pontoon 2 years ago that will soon be the target of a renovation lol.

Welcome, Cool, I was thinking about making an electric toon, since they now have the 200 hp motors.

Welcome
Guess there are a lot of pros to the electric. Nice quiet ride and probably don't have to winterize. Do you know how many lbs of thrust it has?
Think there are a few suppliers of electric motors for toons. Think one of them goes up to about 5k but are made for all electric lakes.
Finally found it, boy do i need to cleanup my bookmarks. My dealer uses these for people who are on all electric lakes

I cant remember what the minn kotta is on there right now. There are a lot of the ray motors on the lake here and have been for a long time. I'm in the works of ordering a motor made by torqeedo. Not trying to set any world speed records haha, just a small boat that gets me on the water.

Thanks for the welcome, I ordered a torqeedo cruise 2.0r for the boat. I will post results after I do the install. I should have the motor here the beginning of this week, just need to pick up new batteries. The I will hopefully be cruising around at a nice slow speed haha.

That's a nice looking motor. What thrust did you get? Does it look like any of these. Oh ran across what looked like an online owners manual also.

I got the cruise 2.0r its rated at about the equivalent of a 5-6hp gas engine. I'm not looking to set any speed records just have enough power to cruise around and go fishing. The minn kotta motor just wasn't cutting it.

rob that motor will probably do you just fine. I google searched and see they make a 4.0r also. I think the 2.0r had about 121 Lbs thrust. That should be pretty good. The 4.0r was
rated at 215 Lbs thrust.

For anyone else interested West Marine sells them so I know youi can get them much cheaper other places but anyway here is the Web Page with all the Data.

Anything West Marine sells can be bought elsewhere for much less money. West Marine is High Priced on just about everything. I use them as an educational tool but buy from Overton's or Defender Industries.
