newbie questions

After owning several bass boats, I have purchased my first new(used) 24 ft Monark Suncaster 240. So, I have a couple questions.

Trailer- it is a double axle galvanized- I was told it is "rubber" bunks. It does have a rubber type material..Is it really rubber? If so, how do I take care of it?

Second, I am looking to purchase a good cover for trailering, mooring, and storage. Through research, I want a semi custom fit. The material should be Sunbrella Marine, Ultima, or Top Gun- is that the general consensus? Also, where is the best place to purchase?

Third, best bimini- same questions?

First off, welcome come to the forum, glad you joined us. as far as a semi custom fit cover, there are alot of options. I think if I were you I would check out www.pontoonstuff.com They have 3 types of covers... Naturally the one that best fits what your looking for is the most expensive, but it is darn near water proof, and is trailerable. Give em a look see if they have what you want.. again, Welcome!

This from someone who does not trailer their pontoon (I do have a bass boat that I pull sometimes), but I remember reading an article some time ago that suggests you leave the cover off your boat when pulling it. The main reason is that the wind tends to get under the cover, making it more like a sail. It increases drag, puts lots of undue pressure and wear on the cover and greatly reduces gas mileage.

Remember thinking I needed to cover my bow rider when towing. It was an older cover but ripped it to shreds. A cover might prevent a stray pebble or something from hitting it but that would be the only reason I would want to tow one covered, even with a cover rated for towing seems like it would shorten its life.
Most canvas an awning shops could make you one. Dowco it another you might check. Got mine from these folks

The canvas shops will handle the entire thing but if you order online you will have to install the snaps to your boat. Oh the covers with the vents really help out so get those if available. Might help you with any future mildew issues.

I will check out all the covers...I tend to do a lot of research before making a purchase.
