Hi everyone,

Been lurking on this great site for months now so figured it was time to introduce myself...

I'm from Northern Ontario and have been addicted to boats all my life. After having had just about every type of boat, each were missing a desire that I couldn't quite figure out. Finally it hit me that I slow cruise 90% of the time, like to eat BBQ food, enjoy sitting up high (and not looking through a windshield like I'm in a car), and love ample space and comfort. So last September I bought a water minivan and it's already been the best decision ever. My fiancée and I will be getting married this summer and will be pontoon honeymooning on the Trent-Severn Waterway (connects Lake Huron to Lake Ontario) for a week or so. I'll be looking here for some boat-camping advice.

Our starter toon is a 22'(measures 23') 2006 Odyssey 222C with a 2006 Suzuki 40. The motor is a lot smaller than I wanted (90-115) but the price was too good to refuse, and the fiancée couldn't care less that it only does 15 mph.

So, the plan is we're going to enjoy this one for now, discover what we like and don't like, then get the perfect boat next time.




And here is near the same spot on the same lake last weekend. We enjoy our winters but we're still jealous of yours!!!!

Wow, that place is gorgeous, in both seasons! Places like that make me wish my toon were easier to haul around!

Nothing wrong with your toon. You could easily re-engine with a 75 hp or 90 hp Suzuki, and really enjoy your boat.

A 40 hp engine is just a little boring for a young retired guy like me. My 115 hp Yamaha planes easily, and cruises quietly and efficiently @ 2500 rpm's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 40 does about 16 mph and a 90 on it would probably hit the low 20s.

I was thinking it may be best to pick up a used 22-25' tri-toon with a 115 or so. That way it would at least be far more efficient on plane, and have a few more mph to play with.

I got a 30hp but a smaller toon and it does 16-17 mph with 2 people on board, don't be in to much of a hurry to replace that motor, gas price are rising again and soon to go way above $4 a gal again, that 40hp uses about half the gas a 90hp will use, you might see 22-25 mph with a 90hp but for the investment and higher fuel cost might not be worth it.

Enjoy the slow speed and spend more time on the beach, thats what I do, no need racing up and down the lake, eat brats, drink more beer and soak up the sun..
