Re: Oars who has em.
I carry one but it is not required. We use it to extend to the gas dock guys to pull us into the dock (this is when my wife is driving of course
)
I finally reviewed the regs in WV and was surprised at how little stuff was required. I grew up in OH and based my preparation on those regs. I wouldn't leave the dock without the stuff I carry though, required or not.

Re: Oars who has em.
I went to the local boat show and talked to Missouri Water Patrol officer, mainly about adding additional lighting, but also discussed the oar issue. She confirmed that the state doesn't require any oars or paddles. However, the Coast Guard does, but if they do a safety check, they typically don't issue a ticket. Thankfully, we see the Cg only on Holiday weekends.
Oh, the WP officers are typically young, good looking, and male. This gal was hot! Getting pulled over by her would take some of the sting out of the ordeal.

What happens at the lake stays at the lake. Unless I have my camera handy.

Honestly, I couldn't pick her out of a line up if I had to. With the Bosslady standing behind me, I had to look at the accident photos behind her while she was answering my questions. But I got a couple quick glances in.

Re: Oars who has em.
I spoke with KY DNR at the boat show and they confirmed it wasn't required but good to have. We talked about how hard it is to row a poontoon but it is likely you could use the wind and steer with the oar.wish2fish wrote:I thought they were required in KY but it doesn't look Like it!

rowing a pontoon with an oar is kinda like chasing and ant up an elephants butt!
I have the trolling motor mounted to the outboard so as long as it is not a battery problem I can get the boat to safe location.
Re: Oars who has em.
I keep 2 boat hooks on mine. I have just as good a chance of PULLING my boat through the water as I have of oaring it through. Plus the boat hooks double as a 'humane' gaff for those monster Kings I catch.

Nebraska regs say we got to have them, on the lake with no wind they might help (no wind in NE that's not going to happen) and not worth a s..t on the river. but we still have one.

Re: Oars who has em.
i keep one long oar and one extendible hook. the oar doesn't get much use unless i am in a tight situation and i need someone in front and back to help maneuver the boat.Skallywag wrote:I keep 2 boat hooks on mine. They are not required in Florida. I can't imagine paddleing my 24 footer anywhere so no I don't carry one.
