Your Labor Day weekend....?

#1 Post by evinrude2stroke » Tue Sep 04, 2012 6:04 pm

How was everyone's Labor Day weekend?
I hope everyone was able to get out on their Pontoon. Up here in the northeast the weather on Labor Day wasn't all that great but I was able to enjoy Friday,Saturday & Sunday on the boat with family and friends. It was a great extended weekend to end the summer. Now that school is starting I don't get out too much and before you know it, it's time to wrap her up for the winter. Again, I hope everyone's weekend was as nice as mine.

Being the genius that I am I decided to bottom paint last week. Finished on Friday, but needed a 3 day cure. Thus no boating until Monday.

However Monday was fantastic. Went to a local sandbar with my family and my brothers family (11 in all). Weather perfect, clear skies, light breeze, just enough cervesa to make it thru. Great way to spend the holiday.

Only PITA was we were pulled over for a random Coast Guard check. Everything was in order so no problems, just seems there probably were bigger problems out on the high seas instead of a family putt putting on their pontoon boat.

I had to work all weekend. :(

Which basically meant that, over the weekend I spent about 40 hours on the water. :eviltaunt

We got out Saturday night for the Blue Moon. It was great.
Went Friday, Sunday and Monday too. The weather was too good to stay home.

Now that I have kids, I try to stay off the water on the major holidays. To many out-of-towners /city folk that are inexperienced, drunk, or both.

The strange thing was that we saw more people put on Saturday night than in any of the days of the weekend.
There was one bozo running his dock lights who cussed me out for complaining and one who guessed wrong about taking a trip over the flats. They refused help saying SeaTow was on the way. We found the SeaTow guy nosed into the mud about a mile away and guided him back as close as he could get to the grounded boat.

I really wanted to pull SeaTow out, just for the picture but he just gutted it out, burning a hole in the mud once I showed him where the hole was.

I assume SeaTow just winched this guy across the flat. If he had taken help when I offered it I probably could have just walked him out but the tide was rolling out of there and he was laid over by then.

We had a great time on Eufaula but could only stay till Sunday evening. Decided to go to a more popular sandbar on Sunday afternoon -- but we got there too late and there wasn't a spot to beach. So we ended up going to our normal sandbar where only a few boats go.

I'll be glad when we get more water so we don't have to worry about wandering out of the channel. There were several places where we'd be in 35' in the channel and if I wander over a few feet, we'd drop to 3' of water below the boat. I'd slow down, trim the motor up and then start finding my way back to the channel.

Looking forward to our 9-day vacation at the lake in a few weeks. Hoping for cooler weather then too -- it's no fun when it's 105.

Worked... After tommorrow, off for 8 days. Plan to be on the river for most of them. Gotta try out this latest new prop, before tossing on the jackplate.

I'm not too far from oldcoot, so the rain kept us away. We've got one of the major lakes closed due to the drought and three of six ramps closed on our lake. It was nuts on the last non-holiday weekend.

I wish I convince the family to move to the coast. Boating on these little central Illinois lakes is not real boating.

Our toon is locked in it's new storage and surrounded by house things along with 2 other units. Sure hope for a nice fall so we can explore our new lakes.
By the way, where we are staying at the McAlester Ammunition plant they rent 25ft pontoons with a 90 motor and trailer you can tow anywhere for $75.00 a day. These are for military active, retired, and civilian employes
