Power anchor installed under the deck
Getting ready to launch soon so I finally mounted my power anchor. My kids gave it to me for xmas and I just got around to installing it today. I didn't want to mount it topsides because of tripping over it and drilling holes in the deck. I got a 1ft.x 2ft. 1/4" thick aluminum plate to span the floor joists and bolted it up. I had to modify the davit to make it work upside down, ran the power wire down the port tube to the battery, and the easy part...stuck the wireless remote on the dash.
It's a Trac 35 for pontoons, I read the bad reviews about the plastic drive gear failing in the older models, so the company upgraded to steel gears. I opened up the gear box just to be sure, and it had the metal gears. I was concerned about the strength of the 1/4" braided anchor line, (I always used half inch line on a fluke w/ 5ft. of chain) but I anchor mostly in sand or mud, and shallow, so I'll try a river anchor. We shall see, I'll let ya know how it works out.
I sometimes have guests sitting in the bow seat where I stow the anchor and line, so they have to move when I toss or retrieve it, it's gonna be neat to just "push a button" and motor away.

Re: Power anchor installed under the deck
Good idea. I think I'll try doing the same thing. what weight is your anchor?
Re: Power anchor installed under the deck
it' s a 15 pounder, if it's too small, i can go up to 35 lbs. if needed. It retrieves at 65 ft. per minute.deckedout wrote:Good idea. I think I'll try doing the same thing. what weight is your anchor?
Anybody out there use a river anchor on their toon? do they dig in?

I use a 20# River in mostly muddy bottom. It holds well but comes up fairly easy.

It looks good. I can't tell from the pics but will water be able to get into the housing easier like that and affect the motor or is it sealed and self - draining?

Thats cool and a good idea, I'm thinking of the same model. Be sure to post your results on how well it works.

Re: Power anchor installed under the deck
The motor and controls are sealed, when it's mounted on top of a deck, the spool and housing are open to the weather, I talked to a tech guy at Trac and told him my intentions of mounting it upside down, he suggested to eliminate the electrical plugs and use sealing crimps, but I went with a heavy coating of silicone sealant instead, plus drilled a couple drain holes in the cover.jrolin1 wrote:It looks good. I don't think it will get too wet where it is, maybe an occasional large passing wake, my toon sits high with 27in logs, but when we have a crowd on board, it sits a little deeper obviously.

Santa huh, you can't complain about that. I still may pull trigger on it. The reviews did say they had excellent customer service. That goes along way in my book.cleatus wrote:I read the reviews, I think the company did too, and they are making things right.
