No problem, I am certainly getting the itch. Right now my 2012 SB with a 115 will seem quite a bore this holiday weekend with all this speed talk. Might have to pick up the PTX on the way up to the Cabin. I think my wife would frown upon that though. :scared

But I just got my Dragonfire pipe and fuel controller for my Can Am 1000cc Commander side by side so that should be fun. I have hit 74 in that . :donno

FWIW: If you were to take a fishing style pontoon (less furniture) with 3 logs & strakes and a 300hp motor, 60mph shouldn't be out of reach when mounted & proped correctly.

As previously mentioned, PlayCraft would be your best bet. From looking at their site, the Xtreme models are offered with a 496 (8.1L) - that oughta do the trick!

I think Bennington still makes big block pontoons, but I think they only run 55 mph about. JT

I just saw a 28 foot Bennington with a 496 in it on BoatCrazy or BoatTrader a few days ago. Had a speed sucking Bravo III outdrive, so it wouldn't have been a 496 mag. 55 would be questionable on that one. A 496 mag and a Bravo One, no doubt!!!
You're starting to kiill me! I can see boat shopping in my future again, I have just had the Premier for a year now! I may call Greg up at Manitou and re-start our Big Block/Dual helm-full windshield conversation from awhile back.
DAMN IT JT!!!

SouthBays are known for kickin out some speed. I don't doubt that one bit. Propped correctly and engine height set up properly. They are a contender!

does anyone sell an aftermarket kit to put an inboard on a pontoon, or would a company like playcraft sell a boat with no motor? I have a 9 second mustang sitting in my garage with a 514, 900hp big block that is just sitting there (I quit racing about 8 years ago) it gets fired up on the weekends but thats about it. does anyone know how much drives cost for something with this much power? besides the drive is there anything else that needs to be done to make a car motor work in a boat? cooling?

there are a lot of things to consider, what was your engine meant to do? short high rpm runs? Boat engines hold a high rpm, for long periods of time, way higher than most cars. what kind of power band? also then yes, you are looking at a expensive drive. I have a bravo 1 XR, with over size shafts, its rated to 700 hp. my engine and drive, I have over $27k tied up. I dont know of a conversion kit, I would believe that you just swap out the outboard center tune for an I/O. JT

I agree on the need for speed.

I can do 20 mph flat out - smoking EVERY house boat on the lake by 10 mph. They're just green with envy. :lol3 :happy

If you review all the tests done by third parties there is no way that I would believe this-Maybe 48mph. If they claim this ask them if they will give a 25% discount
if it doesn't -on GPS of course.

Yeah, funny, on Southbays own site they have a video of their sweet 925 Sport Trifecta model with a 225 Verado on it . Shows a top speed of 41.3 on their test graph. A far stretch from 58 even with the 250 on it.

For what its worth South Bay still makes the Trifecta 900 series with the 600hp Big Block option. Saw a new one on Keystone in March and he has hit 63.7 on his GPS. I did not ask him if it was modded in any way. I will say this, it was by far the best sounding boat I have ever heard.
