22' Bentley Cruise / Mercury 115 HP --> 42 MPH (GPS)???

#1 Post by sunedog » Mon Jun 24, 2013 9:23 am

42 MPH (GPS) for a 22' pontoon with a 115 HP outboard is pretty fast. It has strakes and a SS prop, but I still find it hard to believe.

Anyone have one of these that can verify the speed claim?

Wow, that's pretty darn good, first off I'm not real sure they even make a 22' (but maybe). I've got a 24' (243) with the 115, triple toon & strakes, best I've gotten was 32 gps by myself, full tank of gas and nothing else. But of course I only have an alum prop and don't remember the pitch off hand. But if that will do 42, let me know what size prop cause I'll be happy to split the difference at get an extra 5 mph.

I didn't look at the link, is that a double or triple toon?

I really doubt it's doing 42.

ok, my bad, I just looked at the link, so they do make a 22'. I still don't know that I'd buy it doing 42 though, there are plenty others here that will throw in a couple cents. I do like that black and the interior though.

I am highly skeptical of this claim. My 24 footer with a 150 does 36.

Also its just a 2 toon boat (the bentley) with no underskinning. Maybe they meant 24 :lol3

Yes. Forgot to mention this is a two tube toon.

Heard their radio ad this morning. They say they have one in the water waiting for a test drive. I may have to check it out. If they're telling the truth, I'll have to recalibrate my bull$hit meter.

My gps says 44 and I still find it hard to believe. I wouldn't argue anyway cause it don't make sense.

I hear that radio ad all the time too, but I thought it was for a dealer on the Irmo side of the lake.

Well the GPS could be reading KPH, which would be ~ 25-26mph which sounds right for a 2 log 115. What a great way to fool "dumb" customers. My little home built tritoon will tickle 30mph under ideal conditions with the pair of trolling batteries removed with a strong 70hp engine. Rules of hydro dynamics say mine would be good for 39mph MAX with a 115 and probibly 35-36mph realistically.

My 2008 ST party barge with strakes averages 36MPH with me alone or 34MPH average with six on board and that's with a 90HP four stroke. I don't believe that Bentley is doing 42MPH average, I would guess more like 37-39MPH assuming it has the optimum prop and the 42MPH was with a tailwind.

I did hit 43MPH with a massive tailwind once so maybe I can make that claim when I got to sell it.

One other thing I noticed. That Bentley has only a fraction of the welds attaching the strakes to the tunes compared to mine. My boat has easily 10X the welds. Not sure if that really means anything.

You guys are still missing the lack of under skin. This would make a huge difference. Even if it had it my guess is 34-36 range

I have a 24' Bentley with the 115 Merc that has hit 27 mph once, I was alone, no cooler, 1/4 tank of gas. Mine was underskinned by the factory, has two 25" logs, and is a 2012 model. I was told that even with strakes, my 24' might hit 33 mph, give or take a few based upon conditions, weight, etc.

My guess would be at the best 28 M.P.H. No way a twin toon 22ft with a 115 can run as fast as a 150 or 175 on a tri toon.
