Lol, Looks like a little showing off went completely wrong. :paranoid I'm surprised they both didn't sink. I guess those police boats are well made.

I may not have heard right, but was the boat patrol guy trying to act like it was no big deal? I sometimes have trouble hearing in a high noise environment.

Amen to that! Someone PLEASE tell those cowboys that there is more to operating such boats than turning the wheel and shoving the throttle to the stops...

I love the dickhead cop that shouts "Hey, nobody was hurt so relax!" What a complete dickhead. "Relax...no biggie...my dickhead partner just rammed your boat...chill out!"

There is ton of misinformation and facts left out in that LakeExpo article. One example is that the WP office was either thrown from or jumped from his patrol boat. The WP patrol was circling the main channel, with lights flashing, and the officer was pulled from the lake some distance from the actual accident. The driver of the boat got hit, never took a breathalyzer test at the scene due to his injuries, although blood was drawn at the hospital and the test results aren't back yet. The BWI is a CYA from the WP.

What happens at the lake stays at the lake. Unless I have my camera handy.

I've been a Marine Enforcement Officer for either the Coast Guard or my SO for almost 40 years. I cannot comprehend how these things happen to so called "professionals". I'm not sure if it's cockiness, complacency or reckless abandon. I was taught early (very early) in my career not to let your ego overtake your ability. And to never overestimate your ability. I've never been in even a close call, much less a collision.

With my experience, training, knowledge of my equipment and skills honed over thousands of hours of emergency boat operation, I'm confident that I can head my patrol boat into the dock at near full throttle, and bring it to a full stop abreast and within an inch of the dock without actually touching it, 99 times out of 100. I've actually had to do it a few times with an accident victim bleeding nearly to death on the deck. But it's that 100th time that will be caught on video and the only thing that people will remember.

Just because I CAN do it, doesn't mean that I HAVE to.

That's what these hot-shots need to learn. It doesn't matter how fast you get there. What matters is that you get there in the first place. It doesn't help victims one bit when responders get involved in an incident that takes them out of the game, and forces resources to be diverted to help YOU instead of, or in addition to, the original emergency.

And when they do "show off" or attempt to pull stunts like in this video, nobody says "Ooooh. That guy's talented!" They're more likely to say "Geeez, What a f&%#ing idiot."
