Speaker System
Looking to buy a new speaker system for my Pontoon. The one I have currently works fine and has 4 speakers but I want something louder, any good suggestions on marine speakers that are loud but responably priced?

Re: Speaker System
I used these in my Ranger 620 and they were a good sounding speaker. I got them cheaper than this but cant remember where.

Re: Speaker System
I have read great reviews, and ordered these. Around $60 a pair on amazon / ebay. Cannot say first hand how they sound though.

Re: Speaker System
Can you advise what your current setup is as well? Actual speakers are only one aspect of your sound. Head unit and any amps play a big role as well.
You can get a pair of $500 speakers, but with a junk or weak head unit, you won't be happy.
I'm looking at the fusion ip700 head unit, which has decent wattage to push the polks that i bought.
Are you looking at any subs, or just speakers?

Do you play engine noises through the stereo so your little engine sounds more powerful?pond tuuunes wrote:I have 2 400 watt amps, 2 subs, 10 mids, and 2 tweeters, tweeters are kinda agravating, the make the sound better overall, but bother whomever sits clise to them. JT

Or is that stereo to drown out the beast in the belly?

Re: Speaker System
jrolin and pon tuuuunes, do y'all have any pictures of your speaker setup? I'm looking to add a better sound system to my 'toon, but I'm not sure about speaker placement. I want to be able to hear music clearly from the water without damaging the eardrums of anyone who may be in the boat. I need to find a way to mount speakers that face the water, rather than just under the seats inside the boat.

Re: Speaker System
When you get the speakers upgraded please remember to be courteous to your fellow boaters. If you pull into a quiet cove don't blast your stereo. Other people use the lake for the quietness of it. No matter how good your music may be, it's still trash to someone who want's to hear the quiet. (Know what I mean?)
If you pull into a party cove, go battle of the bands all you want. It's kind of expected that music will be loud there.
Also when cruising, please be considerate of the noise, it travels a long way over water.
I've just got the standard stereo that came with my boat, but it's seldom been played at more than 1/4 volume*. I figure my music is for me and I don't want to disturb those around me. (I have been known to crank it in the party cove on particularly good songs though

Re: Speaker System
I will try to take some pics if this description does not do it for you. My four interior speakers are in the normal places in the seats. The marine kicker sub is in the corner seat in the back. I have two rear facing speakers mounted in the battery area in front of the motor. I only turn those on when we are hanging out behind the boat. That is pretty handy because it does not blast the people out in the boat but you can hear the music clearly while floating. One amp for the sub. The sub is a sealed type with a pretty big enclosure. Very clean bass. One amp for the interior speakers. And one for the rear facing speakers with a switch to cut on and off from the back of the boat. I have a wired remote mounted on the back of the boat to control volume from the water. And naturally two good batteries just in case.TSip85 wrote:jrolin and pon tuuuunes, do y'all have any pictures of your speaker setup? Re: Speaker System
I have a pair of Bazooka tubbies mounted on my ski tow bar that have speakers pointing fore and aft so we can listen bothbin and out of the boat. They sound good with the factory head unit but im putting in an MBQuart amp to drive them better.
