We had a boater out on a local river a few years ago, had 3 kids on board and all with no jackets on. He hit a huge wake, 9 year old girl bounced overboard and drowned. Since then, Maryland DNR has been cracking down hard with good reason. Every time I see boaters out, kids on board with no vests, I cringe. :x

Don't forget to toss them overboard to get used to the feeling. Can be a little awkward at first, especially in a real emergency. He's played in the pool with it also.

Went to the boat show at the yacht club. Talked to the cops and boating safety officers. No age limit on wearing life jackets. Everyone on board has to have a fitted life jacket and they told me it has to be in easy reach for kids. But it is not mandatory for them to wear it.

That being said his will go on at the car and stay on for the day.

I did learn that I need to have flares and two fire extinguishers. One extra for the BBQ.

All good to know.

He hated his life jacket st first but quickly got used to it! He was a bit unsure until he found the steering wheel. He threw his hat and some sandwhich over. When I hit the throllte he screamed with joy! All in all I think it will be a fun summer, especially when he can go in the water!

Thanks for all the advice.

Lol, my son throws everything overboard. Sippy cups, his Spiderman fishing rod (last weekend), pretty much anything not bolted down. I built a telescopic net to retrieve stuff he jettisons overboard and the water is too cold to go in. I tell my guests, if you want it thrown overboard, leave it out where he can get it. :rofl :rofl :rofl

Lol too funny. Great idea on the fishing net. Will have to do the same. We quickly realized that phones, wallets and keys needed to be hidden or they may have been tossed over.
