I haven't dealt w/ the snobs up here either...but we do get a lot of double takes when going over 30mph!!! We also get looked at like we're crazy when we approach the ocean!!!

I never saw a pontoon in San Diego Bay/ Mission Bay riding jet ski's the last 10 years. Since we got the new pontoon last month I have seen 5 other toon's cruising Mission Bay two weekends ago. Seems they get now more popular even out here and that was also expressed by the dealer do to increased orders. We went out now 4 times and I have still gas left. We do get looks particular if you go past 30 mph, people are still stuck here in looking at pontoons from 20 years ago. The comfort, roominess is hard to beat of a pontoon, would cost thousands more to get the same on another type of boat. Did not had any negative comments yet but will have an answer if I do.
I also want to mention the respect for others on this board, helpful and no negatives about the make of boat you own!
Enjoy, boat safe & screw all others!

I love it,great answers.Hey kyds hows that thing do in the ocean? I think I've decided on one very similar to yours.20'er w/150hp tritoon. I dont want to go 25 miles out but up and down the coast and the islands would be great.most of the time I've been out deep on friends center console its been like glass out there,we just watch the forcast and get ready to haul ass if needed.

Ron NH,
To be quite honest I've been a little timid...I will go down the where the river meets and only very little in the open ocean. I've been in about 4-5 foot rollers and it handled great but I still get a little weary! I would love to do the same as you've described but I would really need someone w/ me that's familiar w/ area.

Thats friggen crazy,Im not afraid of speed on land but it think I'd shit my pants in that thing. That avalon is awsome it looks like an old t-bird,probably handles better.kyds I've been down the picataqua fishing alone and ventured up towards kittery.it's not very comforting being out there. I won't take my kids out but I'll take my freinds.would'nt be much of a lose if one of them went in as long as the boats ok.

Scotty, that is just insane! Just Googled your boat.......

The Miss GEICO offshore powerboat racing team was founded by John Haggin who retired from the team in 2010. Today Miss GEICO is owned and operated by AMF Riviera Beach which is owned by Marc Granet, Scotty Begovich, Scott Colton, Gary Stray, Gary Goodell and sponsored by the American insurance company GEICO. Miss GEICO is one of the fastest offshore powerboats in the world. It is powered by twin Lycoming T-53 turbine engines, hitting speeds in excess of 210+ mph.

Driven by Marc Granet and throttled by Scott Begovich, Miss GEICO has captured five consecutive World Championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.

I had no idea this was you! I talked to you last year at Key West, we were over by Billy Mauf's pit! Can't make it down this year, due to the wifes bout with breast cancer, but next year, we will be back down. Missed ya in Michigan City! Will be there again next year, too. Along with the pontoon to watch the race from offshore!
Good luck at Key West, kick Tomlinson's butt!

even if you had a BBQ and cooler of beer on that deck you would loose it doing that catching air foolishness! Do you ever get passed grunting and saying "holy shit" when it does that?

I don't care what they say and can only distantly imagine what in the hell people can possibly think, if they think at all.

I think you will continue to see/hear less and less of the "snobby" comments against a pontoon. They have gained so much market share lately at pretty much every lake across the country that more and more people are exposed to them and how nice they have become. Their practicality has always been obvious, but over the past decade or so the manufacturers are using the pontoon platform to make the boats so much more than just practical. I know we have had several people out on our boat who's opinion of a pontoon changes after about 10 minutes of being on the boat.

I won't get into the "hows" and "whys" but since we got our pontoon in 2010 we have bought and sold 5 different fiberglass boats (4 Sea Rays and one Monteray -- all bow riders). We have used each of them on vacations and enjoyed them all. Not one of them has even tempted us to get rid of the pontoon. Not even close. In fact, it is just such a pleasure to get back on the pontoon after spending time on the traditional boats. 6 years ago I knew nothing about pontoons -- other than I thought they were kind of boring, ugly, and they just never caught my attention. Now I cannot imagine not having one.

We enjoy ours so much I could not care less about what anyone else thinks, but I also recognize that public perception of the pontoon has changed favorably in the past few years.

I'll have to get back to you on that, its being delivered to me next week so I haven't towed it yet and thank you for the well wishes in KW. I just checked the weather forcast and they are calling for 20 plus knot winds so it looks like more air time :nana
