Gas tank's...and then there were two...

It can, just be careful which port you use and put shutoff valves on each tank. The other choice is to just use a 3 way shutoff valve and a single port into the separator.

Ron I think I would try to pressurize it with low pressure and see if it really does leak. There is surely some kind of liquid soap. Maybe Auto Zone would know what you could put in the tank. Then pressurize it. It wouldn't take but about 3 or four pounds pressure I would think. Defiantly no more than six pounds. You don't want to blow it up. Just see where it's leaking. I had wondered why nobody made a tank that would fit in the pod like that. Then I found out they do make one. Defender I think sells them. They do come in different sizes because I remember the ad saying measure very carefully and it gave the Specs. I have the defender catalog if you want me to look. Just let me know.

You can get plenty of pressure for leak test with a vacuum cleaner on "blow".

On my old Center console boat, it had in in-deck tank that the previous owner told me was no good and I was scared to use it. Drove the boat for 4 years with a red tank like yours. Then I just hooked up the old tank, dumped a can of Sea Foam in it, and a water seperator and ben using it for the last two+ years. (The boat is falling apart now, so I am pulling it to sell very soon.)

Ron, while we are talking about rust (ref the hose clamp note), that filter in your water separator is going to rust out long before it is bad. I paint them with a couple coats of rustoleum before I install them. Do it over a couple days so the coats bake in well. Pay particular attention to the top between the gasket and the rim. Pull the rubber gasket out, mask off the inside to keep the paint out of the filter and shoot it.
The other thing is the base they screw into.
After 2 filter bases I got a stainless one. Hanging on the transom, getting splashed a lot, kills them in 5 years or so.

Thanks for the thought. I have a feeling the tank itself is okay, and water was getting in through somwhere else. The previous owner said it may even be condensation, because the bottom couple inces of the tank is submerged. If it turns out to be a bad tank I may take you up on that offer.cbavier wrote: I have the defender catalog if you want me to look. Just let me know.
I would like to get a 3 way valve so I can easily switch between tanks, and just use one fuel/water seperator , and primer pump etc...GregF wrote:The other choice is to just use a 3 way shutoff valve and a single port into the separator.

My reference to 2 clamps per connection was to be sure nothing got through(water, air, etc).

You need 2 clamps per connection to meet USCG regs in permanent installed tanks anyway...lakerunner696 wrote:My reference to 2 clamps per connection was to be sure nothing got through(water, air, etc).

Is that two clamps side by side for a total of 4 clamps on one hose?

Any where you have a connection you need 2 clamps, you put them next to each other

Re: Gas tank's...and then there were two...
Also when you buy clamps..make sure they are 100 percent stainless. There's alot of them that have plain steel screws with a stainless ring. In your climate, they'll corrode and break pretty quick. Bring a magnet to be sure
Seriously. I do...a boat builder friend of ours recommended I do so. Generally what's sold at marine stores is 100 percent while hardware stores, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. mix and match them.

X2 on the magnet, there is no guessing involved. If it sticks you don't want it.
