LakeRunner - How do you like you E-Tec?

I thought nothing could beat a 4 stroke but man I love this little engine. I am over a hundred lb lighter than a 90 merc 4 stroke I had. I get twice the hours on a tank. Only drawback is oil. It aint cheap but I use a gallon to a 100 gallons of gas. I was paying 48 bucks a gallon but found a former OMC dealer that sells a case of 4 gallons for $125.00 for 100/1mix

Glad to hear that. I just traded in my 2009 Merc 60 HP 4 Stroke for a 2011 E-Tec 115 HO. It gets installed next Saturday. THanks for your thoughts.

Did bit of research on the issue. The Etecs are fine motors and probably represent the highest refinement for two strokes. They will be around for awhile as they meet the current and near future emission regs. The only shortcoming that has been mentioned is longevity. It appears that motor reliabity drops off at high hours (more than 2000). As previously mentioned, this is likely only to be a problem for commercial or competitive fisherman and not an issue for the recreational boater.

Frankly, there are others things worth worrying about than this topic. Buy what you like (or get the beat deal on), take good care of it, use it wisely and safely, and enjoy many boating hours on your favorite body of water.

Thanks again. I should be OK, considering I had less than 40 HRs on my merc in 2 seasons. Dont think I'll be hitting the 2000 hr mark anytime soon. I was really impressed with the zero maintenance for the first 3 years, then every 3 years after that. Im a huge fan of low maintenance!

Thanks again for you thoughts.

I'll let ya know how she runs in a week or so!
