Barnacles are sharp

I was cleaning the bottom in August, and scrapped myself with barnacles, and it took forever to heal.

A friend of mine recommended a product called New Skin. Thinkin' about getting some to keep on the boat's first aid kit...http://www.newskinproducts.com/products ... ndage.aspx

New Skin is great stuff, but don't use if the cut is dirty as it will seal in the infection. For bad stuff, keep a tube of super glue in that first aid kit, since it will bond skin instantly. emergency use only, though!

I keep a squeeze bottle of chlorhexadine on the boat to irrigate and clean dirty woulds. It is really a veterinary chemical but if it is good enough for Mr Ed it is good enough for me. One advantage for using it on folks who don't like pain is it doesn't sting like alcohol but Dr Bambi, Ed's doctor, says it is a very good antiseptic. She couldn't officially recommend it on people for legal reasons but she says there is no reason why it would be bad for you. I bought a gallon for my last dog because he was very prone to infections from any little cut and this fixed that problem if I got right on it. You can get it at a feed store

I understand people doctors are starting to embrace it now because it seems to control MRSA, a real nasty infection found in in hospital settings.

The best prevention is a lift

Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know.

The truth is I would love to have a lift, but I just don't think it's in the cards. I don't know if there are strict building codes for lifts in our development, but evey lift I see (and I have seen hundreds) are the exact same style. There are only a few companies that build them, and they charge more for a lift than what I paid for my boat. I guess it's possible to build your own, I know you did Greg, but my skills probably aren't up to par for that project.
