That's awesome herb!!! There is a truck place close to me that does polishing but I've never got a quote for my toon. I really think polishing mine would give it a great look since I painted the tube risers! Looking good Ryan

There a lot of stuff they didn't polish for 800, but that OK I can do the rest because I'm not wore out from doing the big part, polished on this and that from 11 am till 10 pm while my brother was cleaning the fences, Dad was figuring out the wiring and doing some polishing too, went home a lot earlier than we did, but if great we are all getting together on another project, and we hope they be plenty more to come.

Still hard to believe Mom has been gone 11 years now, but I guess they needed another angel in heaven so took her early, Dad at 76 is still active and keeps busy, last week he took his bus up north of my brothers helping one of his buddies who built their bus at the same time, he got his generator going again and helped him fix a few things, Dad said he is not doing that well now days.

So here me drilling the rivets out of the engine pod before removing the bolts and taking it out

Had to clean it up a little, with all the shine on the toons couldn't leave the parts not polished like that, what's a week at getting every thing right before we start putting to new parts on.

It's getting close

I got the transom rear support rail all shined up along with the risers running to the inside they didn't do done, then I can start on the inside of the toons because now is the time to do it and get them protected before the deck goes on, won't see it in the water but you will on the trailer.

My Brother worked his ass off cleaning the decal glue and dirt off , here's a picture of the engine surround, he got them looking a lot better just in one day.

Dad my Brother and I were talking about you last night, how long of drive you have to work and were wondering if you couldn't find a friend place some where close to home in trade of a pontoon trip some time, but no big deal, you got to get it when you can, we are just lucky we have the time to work on it in between jobs and it's great to have a place to work on it.

My brother had to stretch his money to the breaking point to buy it, then had to sell the other house, but he got it for a great price from a family friend and came with a bunch of tools, a big air compressor and a miller MIG welder.

And the greatest thing is we are going to rearrange the building, so the boat can live in there and I won't have to haul it back and forth.

And yes I'm lucky with all the help, it's turned into a family project that we will can all enjoy for many years and its nice having Dad working with us.

But don't worry I know you will get it done, no matter how long it takes !

Yeah we thought about moving it up here, but in suburbia where I am just no spot. It'll be fine where she is it'll just take awhile.

Craig just some info it took us 40 hours to get the boat ready to run, took another 40 hours to do all of the extra wiring that I added in, those where man-hours not multiple people for 40 hours it was 40 man-hours.Hang it there man you will get it done.

Nothing new to show, still polishing, we are now doing the inside of the toons, when we first got it back from the polisher, you want to just jump in and start putting parts on, I slowed everyone down with the extra polishing, with all the good shine they had on the toons, finishing it is the only the right thing to do, besides slowing down to do things right on the basics, will keep us from getting the get it done quick syndrome.

Now we could have had deck on it and had the wires laid out and been on the water next week, but we are going to take it one step at a time and do it right the first time, by carefully laying things out many times if we have to, till it's right, we are doing all we can to make it the best, that way when someone says, nice pontoon!, you can say thanks, We built it as best as we could, I going to put 1991 Grumman in big letters, just to have people say, that's a 91?

Who knows we are enjoying rebuilding the toon so far, so if the money is right, we might do a few for other people, I'll love to see their faces when they got it back, I know just riding in the pick the the frame from the polisher, from five hundred feet away, it didn't look what we dropped off and just got better when you got close.

We made the right decision to get the biggest part of the buffing done, or we would have been hating it by now and no way would we have felt like doing all the finish polishing we are doing now, but then we have picked up a some good tricks to get it to shine quicker.

Rub it down with lacquer thinner before you start sanding an area, you clean a bunch of the black crap off and you not loading you sand paper up, then when you start sanding with 320 grit, if you don't need heavier to start, you see it moving toward a shine right off the bat, sanding is cleaner than buffing and does more to smooth any pits you have in the surface.

I got all the inside of the pontoons sanded down in a few hours and I can even go faster as I go up the grit sizes, then just finish it off with the buffer, I love how the railings are cleaning up and my brother has only been over them once with some steel wool and gas, stinks like crap but he says it works, we will have to wipe it down with thinner to remove the little bit of oil thats in gas, just enough to mess up the clear coat.

My brother said we could polish the fence to a mirror shine too, I said great then we get run over people wouldn't see it, but then on the other hand it would freak people out to see you just standing on the water :rofl

We had the new under deck ladder c-clamped in place to check it out, it was hard at opening because it falls through the bottom of the channel, they should have left the bottom of the channel wide and just cut it down where the ladder folds down in front.

But we will put a fix on it some way, so it will slide out easy and not rattle.

One more pass on the inside of the toons should do it, dam we going to have to put it together soon.
