Prop toque
I had to remove my prop. When putting it back on the toque is 40.6. The nut does not line up with the hole for the cotter pin. Should I over toque to match the hole up,or should I under toque to match the hole up?

Re: Prop toque
I personally would not over torque, but then I have never used a torque wrench to put on a prop. I simply tighten till its snug then line up a hole with the nut and put in the pin. You basically just don't want it to have slack to move back and forth. Using that method for the last 55 years I have never lost a prop. It was the way I was taught.

Re: Prop toque
My Johnson manual's instructions say to torque and, if necessary, continue to tighten the nut to align the nearest cotter pin hole.
But I just pulled our prop a couple of weeks ago and almost didn't need a wrench to loosen the nut after removing the cotter pin. !
YMMV

Re: Prop toque
Is that foot or inch pounds? The Honda manual tells me to basically get mine snug. In the past I've been able to take it off with my hand. As far as lining up the hole, I find that usually one hole is clearly closer than the other, so I shoot for that one.
