Person/Weight Regulations??????

#1 Post by OBDZOBG » Thu Apr 29, 2010 6:58 am

I have just purchased a 1985 24' Lowe Sunbird w/a 1977 85HP Evinrude. The boat does not have the regulation sticker on it. (weight/# of people) I need to find out what the weight/# of persons is & also where I can get a sticker. Thanks!! :donno

Nope...not there. Any other suggestions? It is an old boat, I wonder if the previous owners took it off. I just really need to know how many people or weight I can get on the boat. There is 5 of us, then I have a sister with a husband & 2 kids. (9 people total on a regular basis)

If you take too many and it starts to sink, can't you just start throwing the least important people overboard?

I think that's why they make you carry one life jacket for every person on your boat.

Just call up a bunch of people, and ask them to come join you on your new boat ( Usually very easy to get people to come with you). Then, start letting people board the boat. Made sure to try and spread everyone out evenly, and once is starts to get water on the deck, you know to subtract 1 from the number of people on board, and you have the number of people you boat can hold. To transfer into weight, simply weigh each person you had on the boat. :nana :eviltaunt

Ok, seriously, here is what you can do.
#1, look up your boat on the internet, and see if you can find a local dealer. If so, call them up, and see if they have this info. on your boat.

#2, Find a similar boat in both lenght, # of toons, Dia. of toons, construction ( alluminum deck, wood deck) and see if someone has a similar boat, and they can tell you their weight limit. I have a 26' toon, with 25" logs,(2) and aluminum decking. My boat says 14 people, and I'm not positive on the lbs. (I think they usually figure about 125lbs. / person though). Also, don't forget that weight includes Coolers, life vest, and any other cargo on board. Hopefully this can get you close.

#3 Visit your nearest Wildlife & Parks, or thier website, and see if you can get the boat inspected, or if they can help you. I know if you want to change the horsepower of motor your boat can safely hold, you can have them inspect, and change, so maybe they can help on this as well. After all, they are located on teh same sticker ( at least mine is).

Oh, check this out too. Very similar boat, ask him what his weight limit / capacity is, and there you have it.

your state laws probably require the placard attached to your boat.
