Are you sure you didn't drop the key that drives the impeller? That will bite you too.
I have had one defective impeller so far, spun hub, and it showed up right away with your symptom.

For some reason some mercs when you change impellers and hook muffs it won't pee. We did a friends Merc 135 and had that issue. I don't know how many times we dropped the lower unit and reinstalled it still no pee. A neighbor had the same thing happen and dealer said put it in the water and it should pee. Sure enough it had a good solid stream and now will on muffs. I have no idea why but it worked.

I usually put mine in a trash can to run it if I am not running on the flush port. Just don't put it in gear ;)

If funds is a major issue, an alternative would be to find a good quality boat salvage operation to look for a used lower unit. LanierMarine.com in North Atlanta/Buford, GA is a source with hundreds of used boats in stock in dis-assembly. BoatTrader.com and/or EBayMotors.com can point you to other sources of lower units.

On my lake, lower units are often stolen in the middle of the night from boathouses--a 5 minute job. Good lower units are often fenced to Florida salvage yards. Insurance companies pay out the nose for new replacement lower units around here.

Well,

I got the Lower to pee! :nana I had missed a seal on the water tube. :paranoid But bad clanking now coming from top end. :x I don't know what it is, it was altogether a shitty weekend.... I couldn't find the compression tester so I just gave up until my bro came up with it. He swore it was by his toon, but I couldn't find it and I wasn't wasting any troubleshooting time without knowing if something major had happened. I will let you know in a couple weeks when I go back down. The lower did shift fantastic so that was a good buy for 600. I may take her in if compression is good. That way they can't give me the "oh man your motor is shot" line.

Well here are the pics of my compression and a video of it running the knock sounds a lot worse in person.

Remember this is a 17 year old motor still with 125 lbs. Damn I wish they all had it.

I stopped at PJ's Marine outside of Clinton and he quoted me 800 at the worst if it was the connecting rod and not just rings. So for 600 - 800 hundred back in business, with vacation coming up it may be sittin for awhile.

I think a damn good price after seeing Rolands post. It just sucks that the lower and upper go out together.

Someone help me on the youtube link (my first one) after they changed awhile back.
